Happy holidays and seasons greetings sketchtographers! I hope you're having a good winter because Marilyn Monrouge just sizzled up our Holiday celebration session for the naughty and nice.
We also introduced our new "Model's Choice" seat where the previous month's winners best model's choice drawing get a bonus prize of sitting up close to get a different propsective than anybody else in the house. This month sketch artist, Kendra Heard had the privelage of bonus presents for her holiday visit with Dr. Sketchy. You can see pictures in our PHOTO section

The year may be over but that just means it's time to start over and ring in the next new art year. Come welcome a sketchy new year in with the lovely Angela Ryan. She has some great new poses to keep your pencils busy and your creative libations flowing.

Rocky Horror pictures and December announcement

Taffeta Darling, Black Mariah and Halo Seraphim made us do the time warp again in our Rocky Horror themed Halloween edition of Dr. Sketchy's and it was a BLAST. Three models and three times the fun gave us tricks and treats for sketches and prizes. You can see pictures in our photo section on our branch page

Next up, this December we're making a sketch list and checking it twice to bring you a special holiday session with Marilyn Monrouge. We'll also have a special holiday music mix provided by Dallas' own DJ Tigerbee, so with holiday cheer and winter wonderland magic, this will be a cozy December to sketch some merry into the season.

Lucha Delores unmasked herself as she was too hot to contain and Courtney Crave proved that you can't keep a beautiful model down and both were such great models that we look forward to having them again soon.

Circus SideShow edition w/Ruca The Tattooed Queen pictures and next show announcement

Our circus sideshow session was so much fun and Ruca did an AMAZING job that we will definitely have her back again soon. There was cotton candy, circus animals (the cookies) and circus peanuts (the hideously orange ones) for everyone. Our attending artists that show up to our sessions have such a beautiful amount of talent that I don't mind saying: it WAS the greatest sketch on earth. You can see the photos on the main branch page or on our Flickr.

Next month we have the prehistoric princess Flossie Carmichael back from the sketch that time forgot. We may be primitive art monkeys but Flossie will create the fire to ignite your pencils and release your primal instinct to draw, draw, draw.

February's androgynous Valentines was a huge success. Hollis Wakefield made the girls and boys all fall in love with her and I tried to win them over a little bit more with homemade cupcakes. We started this tradition last year and as long as I'm running this chapter, we'll do it every year. Mark (sketch) my words. ;)

We're starting things off right and January's session showed exactly that. We had a full house and Kali kept the excitement going pose after pose. She was a delight to work with and even brought some extra party favors for the artists. You can seen pictures on our Flickr and on our main branch photo section.

Next up we're going to have a February Valentine super sweet and sour surprise session with the lovely Hollis Wakefield. If you attended this session last year, you'll remember what the surprise was. Well this year it's a little bigger, a little better and a lot Dr. Sketchy.

Zombie Kennedys drawn in Dallas!
That’s right, Dallas is notorious for the JFK assassination so we decided to do our best at giving the Kennedy’s back to the world ....as zombies. La Donna Hearne was the the terrifyingly beautiful Jackie-O and her friend Vivienne Vermouth stepped in as JFK himself. Her self make up job was amazing and the poses we such a kick and fun to draw. This is one that’s going to be hard to top, but we’ll do our best. You can see the photos in our photo section or our branch section or on our flickr.

Next up we are teaming with the Ruby Revue Burlesque show for their special Michael Jackson show on August 19th. June Industry Giants session

Last weekend we participated in Dallas Texas' Industry Giants, a gaming, animation and special effects conference. We didn't post an advertisement for this one because it was a freebie we did for the conference that costs to attend the program on it's own and helped the art community get back in touch with keeping their drawing skills up. Many of the amazing artist that showed up admitted that they wanted to practice sketching models again and really appreciated that we were there for them. Jana Edele was our fabulous model and showed them how fun this can be with such a beautiful model.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, welcome. May is arriving quickly and we have another big show for you with some great new excitement. We're going to try a few new things because we love our art-monkeys so much.
First we're trying a new venue. We happened upon a new bar/club that opened in Deep Ellum and new we had to show there. The place is called La Grange and we have big hopes for their future in Dallas. When we approached them, they hit us with a new idea: how about an evening show with a band as well?
We couldn't resist so for the first time we're going to have our session from 7 to 10 with the lovely Elisa Post Madonna and afterwards, band The Sideshow Tragedy, will continue into the evening to entertain you while you enjoy the club.
So for this session we're giving you an evening of a noir inspired setting to muster up your creativity and inspiration. So sharpen your pencils and bring your favorite sketch pads. This is just the beginning....

March madness recap

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, you march has come and gone and boy was it a surprise.
Due to an illness, our lovely model was not able to perform and because our fearless leader didn't want the Dallas kids to miss out, she boldly stepped in and acted as guest model for the night. We give and we give because we want everyone that comes to get as much as we can possibly do for them.
We even stayed up late the night before making home made cupcakes (even the icing was from scratch) for everyone to enjoy in our candy sweet themed show. Stay tuned for more as we rev up the engines again and again.

Art Monkey of the Month

At every session we have the models choice winner and we tend to make that the big prize winner of the day. We're going to try to post a little about them every month to show our appreciation of their talents and abilities.

This month it was Ramon Barboza. He has a few pieces at Cafe Brazil in Deep Ellum and his story is the perfect beginning to kick this off.

It was such a movie script moment because he actually came to the session because his girlfriend was performing at the Dallas Burlesque festival and he didn't have tickets. Oddly enough that's what we were giving away as the grand prize and magic was in there air because Rose Darling picked his amazing piece with out even knowing his story. Nicholas Sparks couldn't have written it better.

Exciting stuff, folks. We took a hiatus, and now we are back and ready to get things kicked off the right way.

We are featuring the lovely and talented Rose Darling- who will be giving us plenty of heart broken inspiration for our Sweetheart Valentines Bullshit edition of Dr. Sketchy. You won't want to miss this one.

Also, the grand prize will be 2 tickets to the Dallas Burlesque Festiva l for the night of February 6! Rose Darling, along with many other big-time burlesque superstars will be performing in this two-day event, which kicks off Friday night.

February Session!

We are so happy to formally announce our February Dr. Sketchy session.

Please note there is a change in venue for February... Our next session is at Hal Sample's SPACE STUDIO at 2814 Main Street in Deep Ellum.

We are super excited to host at Hal's SPACE. There will be plenty of room for sketchers to spread out and take full advantage of drawing Ginger Valentine from every angle.

We are also very excited to bring Red Stripe beer on board as a sponsor. They are very excited to be involved (geez- lots of excitement) in Dr. Sketchy--- and--- well--- we love their beer. Hooray beer! There will be plenty on hand.

Also, as I mentioned in a previous post here on this bloggy thingy, Again and Again vintage resale furniture is also a sponsor- with some great help making our sets more exciting to draw.

Excitement for the New Year...

There is so much going on and so much to report in the world of Dallas Sketchy... but, dear reader, I will need to keep you in suspense a bit. But for you... just you... I will reveal a little bit...

As we mentioned at our last session, our February model will be Ginger Valentine. Naturally.

Give us a couple more days and we will announce the full details of the session... we will be doing things a bit different this time.

I also want to announce an exciting new sponsor we will be working with.
Again & Again!
If you are not familiar with Again & Again- you will be. It is the funkiest and best vintage furniture shop in town. I have loved this place since they opened their doors right next to Pandemonium at the corner of Henderson and Bonita in Dallas. Since starting Dr. Sketchy in Dallas I have wanted to borrow some of their fantastic furniture to help make our sets more interesting. Starting in February- they are generously going to be providing something lovely for our muse to perch upon.

Also, we are putting together our line-up of models into the Summer. We are even planning on a fantastic outdoor sketchy at one of the most fantastic spots in town... fingers crossed...

Big thanks to Hansel von Quenzer who now holds the title for Most Inventive Sketchy Poses, earned during the 1-5 minute poses. Nice work.
It was also quite a treat to have Ginger Valentine stand in on a few poses with Hansel to offer up a bit of ... skin... yeah- we know what you artists want to see.

A look back at December Dr. Sketchy with Courtney Crave

While I am being nostalgic, I might as well think back to December when we featured Courtney Crave. This was one of my favorite sessions so far.
A great collection of artists! Ridiculous Christmas sweaters! Drinks! Games!
And a beautiful model under the tree.

This session also had me kicking myself. Forgot my camera again... 3rd session in a row. These pics were compliments of Ginger Valentine who came for the spectacle of it all. We love that girl.

Ginger Valentine started the session off with a bang. Truly remarkable poses to keep things interesting for the sketchers.

Ok so what's this all about anyway?
Well, just show up at one of our monthly sessions with your paper, easel or drawing board or whatever and any dry medium of your choice (dry mediums are pencil--charcoal--pastels--watercolors are ok too etc.)
NOW this is where it gets good! We supply the hottest most fabulous outrageously delicious burlesque superstars, roller derby babes, amazing contortionists, and other assorted local interesting muses for your drawing delight. As if the eye candy and sketching madness wasn't enough, be prepared for a heavy dose of fun.

Games and contests? Yes, there will be some.
Prizes? Of course, many.
Drinking and debauchery? You bet your sweet little ass.
